Kindness is defined as doing something toward yourself and others, motivated by genuine desire to make a positive difference. Kindness is shown to increase self-esteem and mood, decrease stress levels, improve relationships, slow aging, and is accompanied by emotional warmth. Research shows kindness and mental health are deeply connected.
We at Gentry Park Senior Living know that one act of kindness can lead to many more. Kindness is contagious and it begins with you!
To me, kindness means being friendly, considerate, and generous to others. Some ways to encourage kindness and put a smile on someone’s face is to acknowledge them, ask them how they are doing, and tell them they are appreciated.
We can help to inspire others to spread kindness by serving as a model. It is important to smile and be kind to others, even when you do not feel your best.
During our recent challenge with staffing, we have been utilizing more agency nurses. One of the nurses reported her morning starting out rocky, but she had one of the best CNAs that was a great help to her. The nurse said that made all the difference.
Kindness is important to health and well-being. I believe kindness leads to a positive attitude and reduces stress. In turn, this improves the health and well-being, not just for an individual, but for the whole organization.
Gentry Park Senior Living practices kindness each day with every resident, whether they live in Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Memory Care. Arrow Senior Living believes “Acts of Kindness can drive change in the world.” We hope kindness finds its way to and from you.
