Gentry Park Senior Living Thanks and Celebrates Its Culinary Director

Fun Fact: The hat that chefs wear is called a Toque Blanche, which means white hat in French. It is believed that the height of the hat symbolizes the seniority and rank of the chef in the kitchen and the folds in the hat express the qualification of the chef.

Culinary art is the mastery of preparing, cooking, and presenting food. Culinarians, or Chefs, are experts in this field and can be found in hotels and restaurants around the world. The depth of their talent extends far beyond the kitchen. Chefs also have a profound understanding of design, food science, nutrition, and diet.

Culinarians Day, held annually on July 25th, is a day to thank and celebrate the people who impact our experience with food in such meaningful ways. Worldwide, this day is a time to appreciate the art of cooking and is often commemorated with events and competitions. At Gentry Park Senior Living, we will be honoring our amazing Culinary Director, Colin Spradling, and their team!

Colin has 18 years of culinary experience with a background in international cuisine. He is passionate about how the food looks and tastes. Colin will make residents a special meal upon request, and he always tries to enhance the flavor of every dish.

When not working, you will find him hanging out with his family or skateboarding. Colin says he would like to prepare a meal for Thomas Keller, one of the world’s greatest chefs.

The signature sweet our Culinary Director prepares for our community is a beautiful chocolate strawberry tart. Colin enjoys making dumplings, pot stickers, gyoza, and xiaolongbao.

We have a large variety of food choices. Our residents have the luxury of choosing from the menu or selecting the special of the day. Colin takes the initiative to prepare meals to the residents’ specifications. 

Our culinary team works together and creates a fun environment for themselves and the residents.  The team consists of:

Sous Chefs:  Matt and Kevin – both with over 15 years of experience 

Line Cook:  Troy – three years in the kitchen and one year on the line

Dining Room Managers:  Ami and Neth – both have over four years of experience

Servers and Dish:  Katie, Mira, Lisa, Brooke, Hadley, Connor, Manar, and Grant – They are the faces of the culinary department, and we couldn’t do it without them. We could not do what we do at The Fieldhouse without this hardworking team!
